"Where Are You?" – God's Call to Fellowship
Main Scripture: Genesis 3:9
"Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, 'Where are you?'"
Introduction
- From the beginning, God has desired fellowship with us.
- In Genesis 3:9, after Adam and Eve sinned, God asked, "Where are you?"
- This was not because God did not know their location—He knew.
- But He wanted them to reflect on their spiritual condition.
- Today, God is still asking us: "Where are you?" – Are we walking with Him or hiding because of sin and fear?
1. God Desires Fellowship With Us
📖 Genesis 2:16-17 – "And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, 'Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.'"
- God gave Adam and Eve freedom but also a command.
- The serpent deceived them, they disobeyed, and after eating the forbidden fruit, they realized their sin.
- Instead of running to God, they hid from Him.
📖 Genesis 3:10 – "I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself."
- Sin brings shame and fear, causing separation from God.
- Yet, God still seeks us, calling: "Where are you?"
2. God is Searching for Those Who Will Stand With Him
📖 Ezekiel 22:30 – "So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one."
- God is looking for people who will stand for Him, like David, Samuel, and Noah.
- Many believers today may not enter the kingdom of heaven because they have strayed.
- God is still calling: "Where are you?" – Will you come back to Him?
3. God Knows Us Personally and Calls Us by Name
📖 Matthew 10:30 – "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered."
- God knows each of us personally, calling us by name.
- When a loved one calls, they ask "Where are you?" because they care.
- But when a stranger calls, they ask "How are you?"
- God is not a stranger—He calls us back into relationship with Him.
📖 John 3:16 – "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
- God’s love is constant—He seeks us even when we fail.
4. God Speaks to Guide and Restore Us
📖 2 Timothy 3:16-17 – "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."
- God speaks to correct, guide, and equip us.
- Adam and Eve listened to Satan’s voice, but after they sinned, Satan disappeared—only God came looking for them.
- We always hear two voices:
- The voice of God, leading to life.
- The voice of Satan, leading to destruction.
- Whose voice will we listen to?
📖 Genesis 3:21 – "Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them."
- Adam and Eve covered themselves with leaves, but leaves dry up and fall.
- Our own efforts cannot cover sin, but God provided a permanent covering—symbolizing His love and grace.
📖 Numbers 32:23 – "Be sure your sin will find you out."
- We cannot hide sin—everything hidden will be revealed.
- But God is merciful and ready to forgive.
5. Answering God's Call Today
📖 Revelation 3:20 – "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me."
- God is knocking—will we open the door?
- Are we moving according to His voice, or are we like Noah, hiding in the ship’s deck?
- God does not hide His face from us—He is calling us to return.
Conclusion: Do Not Hide—Run to God!
- Adam was afraid when he heard God's voice. When we hear God today, how do we respond?
- God is not asking "Where are you?" to condemn us but to restore us.
- Let us return to Him, confessing our sins, and walking in His love.
- Do not hide and run—God is loving, merciful, and forgiving!
🙏 Closing Prayer:
"Lord, we hear Your voice calling us today. Help us not to hide, but to run to You. Thank You for Your love, forgiveness, and grace. May we always listen to Your voice and walk in Your ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
