Healing!

Sunday Message Summary by Rev. Abhijit Shome

🔹 Healing: A Biblical Perspective

All of us experience sickness in some form—physical, emotional, or spiritual. When illness worsens, we often ask deep and difficult questions:

🔹 Why am I suffering?
🔹 Why does God allow sickness?

Many people come to Christ seeking healing. While He does restore and heal, the journey of faith reveals that there is much more to following Him than just receiving physical healing. The Bible teaches that healing is part of God's work, but it is not the ultimate purpose of our relationship with Him.

📖 The Reality of Sickness in the Bible

The Bible acknowledges sickness and suffering as part of human existence. Even great prophets and servants of God faced illness.

➡️ For example, Elijah, a mighty prophet who performed miracles, eventually succumbed to sickness (2 Kings 13:14).

This reminds us that even those closest to God are not exempt from suffering.

So, why does sickness happen?

1️⃣ Sickness as a Consequence of Sin

Sickness entered the world as a result of the original sin committed by Adam and Eve.

📖 Genesis 2:15-16 – God gave them a command, but when they disobeyed, sin and death entered the human experience.

📖 Romans 5:12
"Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned."

Because of sin, our world is broken, and sickness is part of the consequences of living in a fallen world.

2️⃣ Our Bodies Are Degrading

Our human bodies are subject to aging, decay, and ultimately death.

📖 1 Corinthians 15:42-44
"The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power."

🔹 This means that while our earthly bodies are fragile and temporary, believers in Christ have the hope of resurrection with glorified bodies that will no longer experience sickness or death.

3️⃣ Some Sicknesses Are Part of Life’s Cycle

Not all illnesses are caused by evil or sin. Some are simply a part of natural life. The Bible acknowledges that sickness can come as a result of daily hardships, exhaustion, and environmental conditions.

📖 Deuteronomy 23 – Laws concerning cleanliness and health show that some sicknesses result from external conditions.

📖 Leviticus 15:9-10 – Guidelines for handling sickness reveal that disease can sometimes be a natural occurrence rather than a punishment from God.

📖 Philippians 2:30 – Epaphroditus, a faithful servant of Christ, became ill due to his hard work for the Gospel. His sickness was not a result of sin, but rather physical exhaustion.

📖 Mark 6:31 – Jesus encouraged His disciples to rest, recognizing that overwork can lead to physical weakness.

4️⃣ We Are Often the Cause of Our Own Sickness

While some illnesses are unavoidable, many are linked to our lifestyle choices. Poor diet, lack of rest, stress, and harmful habits can lead to sickness.

📖 Proverbs 14:30
"A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones."

💡 This verse reminds us that stress, anxiety, and negative emotions can impact our physical health.
Whenever you feel overwhelmed or desire a healthier life, meditate on this verse and seek God's peace.

💡 Final Thoughts: Trusting God Through Sickness

Sickness is a reality in this fallen world, but God is still our healer and sustainer. He may choose to heal us:

Miraculously
Through medicine
By strengthening our faith through endurance

The most important thing is to trust Him and seek His presence, knowing that ultimate healing will come when we are with Him in eternity.

📖 Psalm 147:3
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

🙌 If you are struggling with sickness, take comfort in God's promises. He is with you, and He offers peace beyond understanding.

🔹 May God strengthen you and bring you His healing! 💙🙏
